When I first heard of the Tichborne Claimant 15 years ago, I thought it was remote and untestable history. Now I find at least two people who may have a real and personal connection to the characters. Fantastic!Helshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02849907428208235392noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3067098918914268503.post-29552821784815684132010-05-28T00:36:37.752+10:002010-05-28T00:36:37.752+10:00roo, you could have been famous :)

And it turns out that Mark Twain wrote about this case, too -- that should make for a good read!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3067098918914268503.post-21683474988984315832010-03-08T16:51:03.112+11:002010-03-08T16:51:03.112+11:00I think the intriguing thing about the Tichborne s...I think the intriguing thing about the Tichborne saga is not that sneaky people tried to get access to money that was not theirs. That has happened since time immemorium.

But this case involved a wealthy, landed family; 3 different countries; months in court; lawyers playing fast and loose on both sides; police; angry relatives; and a Catholic-Protestant divide. Plus it cost an absolute fortune in costs. I wonder if the case would have been as intriguing had Arthur Orton had been ennobled and Catholic himself.

Another thing that I didn't mention, but may well be true. Orton's defence was led by Edward Kenealy, a man who was later disbarred for his aggressive behaviour during the case. It didn't harm his career, however, because Kenealy was later elected to Parliament!!Helshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02849907428208235392noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3067098918914268503.post-40536824240406477182010-03-08T16:14:53.493+11:002010-03-08T16:14:53.493+11:00Never heard the story.
